Introduction to HBV and HIV
The two important bloodborne pathogens that cause disease in humans are the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV). Infections caused by these viruses can lead to death, and infected persons can transmit the infection to others.
This course Introduction to HBV and HIV helps spread awareness of these bloodborne pathogens. It explores bloodborne infections and explains how they are transmitted, the precautions to take against them, and how to manage when one is exposed to them.
After taking this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe HBV and HIV and the diseases they cause
- Explain how HBV and HIV are transmitted
- Describe how to reduce the risk of infection from bloodborne pathogens
- Explain how to manage the infection once exposed to it
